Percussion lessons are open to children and adults of all skill levels. Children at the age of 7 start to develop the finger dexterity and strength required for Drums, Snare, and Mallet instruments. Mallet instruments are an excellent foundation instrument, providing the student with basic musical knowledge that can later be applied to any instrument.

Houston Music Academy is committed to ensuring that students of all ages and abilities have a positive private lesson experience. Students are individually placed with a teacher based on learning style, experience, and musical interests.

Private lesson students also receive the benefit of multiple opportunities to perform in recitals, jams, workshops, and masterclasses.

The Houston Music Academy Piano Department includes Suzuki teaching method, adult lessons, and jazz improvisation studies.

Requirements

Best to be 7+ years of age. All students will need an instrument for home practice between lessons.

Certificate of Accomplishment

Students who demonstrate proficiency on their instrument will receive a certificate of accomplishment.

Percussion Certificate

Houston Music Academy’s Percussion Certificate Program provide students with a guided approach to snare, drum set, and mallets studies by setting yearly goals in melody, harmony, rhythm, technique, & repertoire. The Program is designed so that faculty members may tailor certain program requirements to each student’s unique needs, learning style, and interests. Students of all ages and levels are encouraged to join the program.

Studio Class

Interact and share

Studio classes foster community and comradery among students who are studying with the same teacher. During studio classes, participants have the chance to practice performing for one another, to share their process on specific musical projects, and to offer feedback and encouragement to their peers, in a supportive environment.
